July 13:
An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands on Wednesday, reports said. Initial reports did not mention the damage to life and property, nor are there any reports of a tsunami warning being issued anywhere. This comes just a few weeks after an earthquake had hit the islands on June 5.

Wednesday’s earthquake occurred 201 km NE of Raoul Island, New Zealand (125 miles). Exact location of event, depth 12.41 km, -176.3861° West, -28.0327° South, said a report by earthquakenewstoday.com. The quake was reported at 00:11:13 / 12:11 am (local time epicenter) and it occurred at a depth of 12.41 km (8 miles), below the surface of the Earth. Reports of damage to life and property (if any) have yet to come, as more details about the quake are still awaited

The island has seen three earthquakes this month. The earthquake that occurred on June 5 measured 6.0 on the Richter Scale, had struck the remote Islands which are situated in the South Pacific. The quake was a shallow one and it had not triggered a tsunami warning either.

WELLINGTON:

New Zealand's capital city Wellington was rocked by 5.7 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, according to the country's earthquake monitoring service. The quake's epicentre was 35 km (22 miles) southeast of St Arnaud, a small town in the north of the country's South Island, at a depth of 62 km (13 miles), according to Geonet's website.

Reuters witnesses felt shaking in Wellington, which has a population of around 450,000. There were no initial reports of damage or injury.

Earthquakes are common in New Zealand, whose two islands lie along the Australia-Pacific tectonic plate boundary. A shallow 6.3 magnitude earthquake devastated the South Island's Canterbury region in 2011, resulting in nearly 200 deaths and levelling Christchurch, the country's second largest city.
